Autodesk maya or 3DS max are well known in this area. There's also Zbrush, cinema 4D and many more. there's also a lot of plug-ins for specific stuff. Maya can be downloaded for free from Autodesk site, but only for learning purpose. It's important to know that these softwares are very very expansive. |

A great freeware that has most of the features that we need: modeling, shading, animating, rendering and all the other common features. A pretty nice interface (of course it all relative... it's not an easy program). It's a quality alternative for all the expansive similar commercial softwares.
